Since its inception, M&P has recognized the immense potential of the Indian market, establishing a dedicated India Practice Team as a core pillar of its global strategy.

Our India Practice Team is purpose-built to meet these challenges, led by experienced lawyers - both Japanese and Indian - who have lived and practiced extensively in India. Miwako Shirai has dedicated many years to Indian practice, having worked at a major global professional service firm in India and a leading Japanese law firm. She combines high-level expertise in complex Indian matters with a practical, on-the-ground perspective grounded in her extensive local experience. As a core member of the team, she will enable us to provide clients with even more tailored and effective legal support.
Despite being a young firm, we have successfully advised clients on a number of marquee India-bound transactions and commercial disputes, reflecting our clients’ confidence in our capabilities. In coordination with our expanding regional offices in Southeast Asia, the UK and the US, we are fully equipped to help clients operate confidently in India’s dynamic market.

Our India Practice is built on a model of complementary strengths, ensuring clients receive both strategic oversight and jurisdictional expertise.
The team is led by Miwako Shirai, who brings experience working in India with a leading global professional service firm and a large Japanese law firm, where she was fully engaged in its India practice. The team is anchored by Deepak Sinhmar, an India-qualified lawyer, with extensive hands-on experience advising Japanese companies on complex Indian legal matters. They are supported by Taro Tanaka, who provides critical expertise in Business and Human Rights, ESG/SDGs, and DE&I, and is a specialist in dispute resolution and South Asia-related matters.
