At Miura & Partners, we believe that diversity can be a source of strength, and that by bringing together members with different perspectives and experiences, we can provide more creative and high-quality legal services. By creating an environment where diverse individuals are respected and ideas can be exchanged freely, we strengthen our professional expertise, support the growth of our firm, and create lasting value for our clients and society.
We recognise and respect all forms of diversity, including age, nationality, race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, gender expression, religion, upbringing, culture, disability, life stage, socio-economic backgrounds, and personal values. We do not tolerate any discrimination or unfair treatment based on these characteristics. We are also committed to ensuring equity so that every member of the firm has fair and equal access to opportunities, and we promote an inclusive workplace environment where everyone feels safe to be themselves, is respected, and is empowered to grow.
It is precisely because we bring together members with diverse backgrounds that we can aspire to build a next-generation professional firm—one that is not constrained by conventional boundaries.
Our DE&I Initiatives at Miura & Partners
DE&I Governance
Miura & Partners has established a DE&I Committee ('Committee') composed of both lawyers and staff to guide and advance firm-wide policies and initiatives. The Committee engages with members across the firm, actively considering their feedback and ideas, and promotes continuous improvement through training, awareness-raising activities, and internal communications. Through these efforts, the Committee seeks to foster a culture of DE&I and a workplace grounded in psychological safety, where every member is empowered to participate. It also provides regular updates on the status of its initiatives within the firm, supporting transparency and ongoing progress.
Promoting Flexible Work Arrangements That Reflect Individual Circumstances
We have established flexible work systems (such as reduced working hours and remote work) that accommodate changes in life stages and career paths. We actively encourage members to take parental leave and provide support to those returning to work after periods of leave. We are committed to creating an environment where members can build long-term careers while balancing work with major life events.
Welcoming Diverse Backgrounds
Miura & Partners brings together lawyers and staff with diverse backgrounds, including experience at domestic and international law firms of various sizes, government agencies, and corporations. We also actively welcome lawyers with experience in overseas study or secondments, as well as foreign-qualified attorneys.
We place strong emphasis on gender diversity; women account for approximately 30% of our lawyers and our partnership, a proportion that is high compared to major corporate law firms in Japan.
These diverse career backgrounds complement one another, allowing us to effectively meet a wide range of client needs.
Advancing LGBTQ+ Inclusion and Equality
We are committed to building a workplace where everyone can work with confidence, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. This includes considering the implementation of systems that treat same-sex partners as equivalent to legal spouses. Our lawyers also participate in the Lawyers for LGBTQ & Allies Network (LLAN), contributing to the understanding and promotion of LGBTQ+ within the legal community and society at large.
Building a Global and Culturally Inclusive Workplace
Miura & Partners operates not only within Japan but also across multiple locations, primarily in Asia, Europe, and North America. By collaborating with members of diverse nationalities, races, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds, we learn from differing values and provide legal services based on a global perspective. Through regular regional meetings and other initiatives, we foster trust and mutual understanding that transcend cultural differences.
Supporting the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities
Regardless of disability, we are working to create a workplace that is accessible and comfortable for everyone, where each individual can make the most of their abilities and strengths.
Promoting Awareness and Contributing to Society
We actively communicate our DE&I initiatives and achievements both within and outside the firm, aiming to contribute to greater awareness across the industry. Through pro bono activities and collaboration with external organisations, we contribute to advancing DE&I within the legal profession and society at large.
